Even though I consider myself a lipstick hoarder, I usually can never find the exact shade that I absolutely love.  In this YSL Volupte Tint In Balm Review you’ll understand why I cannot live without something that will protect my lips but also give me some colour. I NEED SOME LIFE!

Don’t get me wrong, in the winter I love any lip balms I can get my hands on but that doesn’t mean sacrificing my sense of style. In my opinion, the best lip balms have some form of tint or colour to them. The glowing sheer color of the YSL volupté tint is one of my favourites. Not to mention the fragrance of pomegranate which is welcomed during the colder months.

YSL Beauty Canada is a great website to shop from but Sephora Canada has many of the same products as well.  YSL has lipstick engraving where Sephora does not.

The YSL Volupte Tint in Balm has been around for awhile but I never thought to pick it up and try it.  I’ll go into detail about a few dupes that I think this product has but I think I finally found the Holy Grail of lip balm! I’ll go into the YSL Volupte Tint In Balm Review and tell you why I think it is a luxury makeup purchase you will not regret.

YSL Tint in Balm Packaging

If you’re familiar with other Yves Saint Lauren lipstick, you’ll know that the packaging is one of the best parts of this brand.  Usually it comes in a silver or gold casing and has some ornate detail around the tube.  You’ll definitely want to take this lipstick out of your purse and show off to your friends.  Also, if you order from YSL’s website, you’ll be able to engrave your name on the lipstick.  See below picture for the lipstick case that I engraved.  It’s such a conversation starter that I love pulling it out and people think I’m cooler than I actually am.

YSL Tint In Balm Swatches

Since I only purchased the Tint in Balm in one colour, I’m attaching a photo of the YSL Tint In Balm Swatches so you can see what the other colours look like.  Some of them look very similar to each other and since I bought online I wasn’t too worried about the colour pay off.  You see, the balm is in the middle which is the little lip symbol. It is surrounded by a soft cream lipstick which is where the colour payoff comes from.

Volupte Tint In Balm Swatches

With the YSL Volupte Tint in Balm, you’re getting sheer color rather than full coverage. However, you can build these up so that they are more pigmented if that is what you crave.

If you’re looking for full coverage then this isn’t your friend. The good thing is that you don’t need to use a lip liner with the YSL Volupte Tint in Balm since it just takes a few swipes to look great.

YSL Tint in Balm Colours

The Yves Saint Laurent Tint in Balm Colours foucs on the pinky tones of the lip.  There is one nude thrown in there but it’s really about the fuschia, reds and corals.  Here are all of the YSL Tint in Balm Colours.

The Formula and Scent of the Tint In Balm

The formula of the Tint In Balm is very smoothing on the lips.  It almost feels like silk as it glides on.  The good news is that I rarely need a mirror to apply because it’s not the type of lipstick that you need to be really precise about.  The lip bullet is where all of the nourishment happens. It contains apricot butter and jojoba oil to make the lips the focal point of the face and make them kissable and smooth!

The scent smells like watermelon but it is really pomegranate according to YSL.  Whatever the scent, it is one of my favourite to apply to my lips.

YSL Tint In Balm 2019 Updated to Volupté Plump-in-Color Plumping Lip Balm

In 2019, the Tint in Balm is getting a new twist! Instead of the lips in the middle of the lipstick that contain the moisture, the new Tint in Balm is going to have a black heart and will be called: Volupté Plump-in-Color Plumping Lip Balm.  Don’t worry – the black heart won’t affect the colour of the lipstick at all.  The black heart is actually a plumping mechanism that helps lips achieve a fuller look.  There is still a sheer tint that will be where the colour pay off happens.

It comes in six shades: Mad Nude, Dazzling Fuchsia, Exposing Coral, Delirious Orange, Lunatic Red, and Furious Gold.  You can see all of the colour choices below.   I know they look like bold colours but they really are more of a sheen than an actual lipstick.

Dior Lip Glow vs YSL tint in balm

The YSL Tint In Balm is actually different than the Dior Lip Glow.  The main difference is that the Tint in Balm actually has some colour to it whereas I find that the Dior Lip Glow is more of a sheen and I don’t see the colour variation too much between any of the shades.  I also like the packaging of the YSL Tint in Balm better than the Dior Lip Glow. Plus, the smell of watermelon from Tint In Balm is amazing!

YSL Tint In Oil

There is also the YSL Tint in Oil which is in a tube form, closer to a lip gloss.  I love the formula of this as well but I find that it does tend to rub off over time.  There are only two colours now live on Sephora and the whole shade range is available on YSL Beauty Canada.

Volupte Tint In Oil Review
Volupte Tint In Oil

The Tint in Oil comes in a long tube and is more like a gloss versus the Tint-In-Balm because it was a solid stick.  I prefer the YSL Tint In Balm over the Tint in Oil but I do think all of them are perfect if you’re looking for lucious soft lips all year around!

Lip Oil vs. Lip Balm

A lip oil is different than a balm because it contains waxes such as petroleum that penetrate deep into the lips to keep them moisturized. However, lip balms sit on top of the lips and do not get absorbed which is the reason why you will need to keep reapplying a lip balm.

Lip Oils sink into the skin and penetrate the lips so that it nourishes dry lips. If you get a lip oil with a tint, that is even better in terms of keeping your lips hydrated.

Many people prefer different formulas. Myself I am really into balms because I find that lip oils aren’t as shiny since they have sunken into the lip.
