If you’re looking for a green clean makeup meltaway cleansing balm then look no further than Farmacy’s cleansing balm. If you’re looking at a makeup melter these are also called cleansing balms depending on the brand.
Typically, the way you use a meltaway cleansing balm is you use it on a dry face and massage into the skin. YIt gently melts away makeup and is perfect for all skin types. After using this makeup meltaway, you would typically follow up with a facial cleanser. This is also what is known as double cleansing. Essentially, a makeup meltaway cleansing balm is the first step and the main cleanser is step two – hence: double cleansing!
Is better to use 2 face cleansers?
I say that it depends on how much of a deep clean you want. I only use 2 face cleansers if I have been wearing a lot of makeup or I haven’t done a deep clean or a mask on my face in awhile. I do find that using two cleansers works well but it isn’t always necessary and it is time consuming.
I have tried the Green Clean Cleansing balm by Farmacy and have a unique perspective as to why I love it and what I having trouble with when it comes to makeup melters. Keep reading to find out my true thoughts on this product.
What is a Makeup Cleansing Balm
Firstly, before I get into the review you may be wondering what a cleansing balm is and why you need it versus a regular makeup remover.
A cleansing balm is supposed to take off your makeup but not strip your skin of any natural oils or feeling. The balm part is nourishing and allows you to take your makeup off and acts as a first step in your skincare routine.
For years, I have been using an astringent or a micellar water with a cotton pad to remove my makeup. It would often leave my skin feeling tight and itchy so close to bedtime.
The cleansing balm element is supposed to provide that extra layer of moisture that I was missing.
Many brands have started to come out with cleansing balms such as: Clinique, Drunk Elephant and of course – Farmacy Beauty. Brands that specialize in skincare are the best ones to purchase a cleansing balm from.
Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm Overview
The Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm feels almost like butter to the touch. It is a cream base but it goes on feeling waxy. The great thing about cleansing balms is that they act as both a makeup remover and an exfoliant but are not harsh on the skin.
It’s good for skin that is Natural, Dry Combination and yes, the Farmacy Cleansing Balm is good for oily skin too according to the description on Sephora.
Ingredients for the Cleansing Balm
The ingredients in the cleansing balm are really nourishing for the skin. They are as follows:
Papaya enzymes that naturally help to exfoliate pores, Tumeric exctracts which help remove impurities including sunscreen residue and pollutants.
Sunflower and ginger root oils to melt long wearing makeup that is stubborn to remove.
How to use the Farmacy Cleansing Balm
The Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm comes out of the jar with a scoop that you place on the skin in small doses. Once you melt the balm into the skin it turns into a milk soft substance which almost feels like a light moisturizer.
1. Apply the product on your face using the included scoop that is included in the package
2. Using dry hands, massage product into the skin in circular motions to warm up the product so that it melts down into an easy rubbing oil
3. Wipe off with a washcloth or splash with damp water to remove product
Now that you know all about the Farmacy Cleansing Balm, keep reading to find out if I even liked this product enough to purchase and keep it on my shelf.
Final Thoughts Farmacy Green Clean Cleansing Balm
I bought the Farmacy Green Clean Cleansing Balm during the Sephora sale. I also bought the smaller version so that I could try it out for a bit.
If you read the steps above on how to use it, I stopped loving it at step 2. I loved applying the product to my face because rubbing it into the skin actually made it feel like butter.
As I rubbed the product into my eyes, it started to sting and making them feel so cloudy. It honestly took me until the next day to be able to see clearly again.
The product also broke me out the next day so I had a double whammy with both my skin breaking out and not being able to see straight. I also wasn’t able to put makeup on my eyes the next day either which wasn’t fun.
I also found out that there is Polyethylene listed in the ingredients which may be the reason why the product feels so smooth on the skin. It is also unfortunate that Polyethylene is actual plastic which leaves me questioning if this product can even be considered “green and clean”. I’ll leave this to the experts to decide but for me, this is the final straw.
I will be returning the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Cleansing Balm to Sephora and will not be turning back.
Farmacy Green Clean Dupe
There are dupes of the Farmacy Green Clean makeup melter. Anything that has a balm base such as coconut oil makes for a clean makeup meltaway. My three favourite dupes are as follows:
Drunk Elephant Slaii Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser
This one is unique because it comes with a small shaker of exfoliates called a Bamboo Booster which is a charcoal powder gently exfoliate away built-up dead, dry skin. You can add this sparingly to the Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser to turn it into an exfoliating product.
If you’re aware of Drunk Elephant, they use wholesome ingredients such as fruit-extracts and clean ingredients. Since Drunk Elephant is a skincare brand you know you’re getting quality ingredients. However, the reviews on Sephora are mixed because many feel that the Clinique Cleansing Balm works better.
Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm
Sephora describes the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm goes from oil to milk when you apply the product to melt away makeup and sunscreen. Clinique products are very affordable and always put skin first so I highly recommend.
Mini Melts Canada
If you’re looking for a mini version of the green clean melter in Canada there aren’t raelly options other than the Green Clean Meltaway by Farmacy as I have been talking about.
The Green Clean Meltaway does have a smaller mini size at 1.07 oz. or 50 mL. If you’re travelling and decide this is the makeup melter for you this is a great smaller option for travel.
Final Thoughts on Farmacy Beauty Green Clean Makeup Melter
I have tried a few makeup cleansing balms and I decided they are not for me and my acne prone skin. The goal of using a cleansing balm was to stop using so many cotton round pads as the balm was supposed to do a good job at removing my eye makeup.
I would rather stick (and I’m going to) with my micellar water instead but I have decided I’m going to buy reusable face pads so that I don’t keep running through my reusable cotton pads.
To me, this is the better alternative to a makeup cleansing balm because I can continue to use my micellar water on my eyes with the pad.
If you haven’t used a makeup removing balm before, I highly suggest you pick up a sample first from Sephora or your favourite beauty counter to ensure they are for you.
