I recently purchased the EM Cosmetics Daydream Cushion Foundation from EM Cosmetics. If you aren’t familiar with EM Cosmetics it is a beauty company started by former YouTuber Michelle Phan.
Cushion foundations are becoming more popular especially with luxury brands such as YSL Beauty, Armani Beauty, Lancome, Guerlain, Shiseido and Dior Beauty. The key to a good cushion foundation is that it applies to the skin seamlessly, provides a healthy glow and is easy to apply.
The idea of a cushion foundation is also based on a seamless no mess look which supports a lot of Korean Beauty practices. You want a clean fresh look without the mess of a liquid foundation that focuses on the skin.
I wanted a cushion foundation I could wear into the summer that would make my skin flawless without much effort. What I love about the Daydream Cushion Foundation is that it contains SPF and comes in a compact that you can throw in your purse. This is the perfect foundation for warmer months because you can reapply and take it with you.
If you’re interested in buying the EM Cosmetics Daydream Cushion Foundation read this review before you buy it. If you live in Canada you may want to read about my guide on “How to buy EM Cosmetics in Canada” before you buy.
Further on below, I’ll list out some dupes of the Daydream Cushion Foundation but keep reading for the rest of the review.
Packaging of the EM Cosmetics Daydream Cushion Foundation
The Packaging of the EM Cosmetics Daydream Cushion Foundation is super cute. It’s a plastic compact with a mirror. It comes in a separate package that you have to put together yourself.
The plastic case is pretty good for a cushion foundation but it isn’t as fancy as some of the luxury brands. It has enough room for the powder puff that comes with it.
The cost of the Daydream Cushion Foundation is $40.80 and you get 2 refills for 12g or 0.42 oz which is very cost effective compared to other luxury makeup brand cushion foundations. This works out to be $3.40 per gram for one of the refills.
I find that since the foundation comes with a refill it would have been good if it came with an extra powder puff. There are instructions for how to clean the powder puff. All you need to do is fill a plastic bag with warm soap and squish it around in there.
Is the EM Cosmetics Daydream Cushion Foundation Good?
The EM Cosmetics Daydream Cushion Foundation with SPF is pretty good! I like how it applies onto the skin because it is a very thin texture which almost makes you think that you aren’t applying anything at all.
It comes with it’s own powder puff that makes it seem like the puff absorbs the product entirely but in fact, when you apply it to your face there is a definite pay off.
It’s hard to explain how lightweight this foundation is yet still gives you a natural coverage. This is a light coverage foundation so if you want more coverage this may not be what you’re looking for.
Since it comes in a compact, I love that it isn’t messy and it is easy to throw in your purse to travel with you.
The Daydream Cushion Foundation also gives you a refill which I think is pretty good. Since this foundation is $40 USD and you get two inserts it really works out to be $20 per foundation.
Overall, don’t let it fool you when you put the powder puff into the foundation the product will be present on your skin even though it feels very light!
Is this a must-have foundation? Likely not.
There are so many other cushion foundations out there that have a similar cost if not cheaper.
What I do like about this foundation is that is super light if that is something you’re looking for. If you want a full coverage cushion foundation then check out some of the dupes I have found for this product.
Packaging of the daydream cushion foundation
As mentioned before the packaging is a small plastic compact. It comes with a mirror and powder puff. The refill is included in the package separately. Compared to some of the other luxury brands, this is not the most beautiful cushion foundation packaging but it absolutely does the job. The compact closes tightly and can be transported with you on the go so it’s great to throw in your makeup bag.
EM Cosmetics also recommends flipping the cushion over with tweezers if it starts to feel dry before you replace it completely. This will help the longevity of the product so you’re not running out too quickly.
Application of the Daydream Cushion Foundation
The formula is very interesting. When you press the powder puff into the compact it appears that it absorbs most of the product. However, when you press it into your skin you see how fast it covers any redness and gives a really even application.
The powder puff picks up a lot of the product so you don’t have to keep dipping into the cushion. Honestly, it goes on evenly and the formula is thin so you don’t get a cakey feeling of foundation.
The formula is infused with Niacinamide to promote glowing skin as well as a micronutrient complex including: mushroom, green papaya, fruit and green tea extract, rice water and goji berry. All of these nutrients help refine the skin and promote a smoother texture overall.

EM Cosmetics Daydream Cushion Foundation Dupes
As I mentioned before, the EM Cosmetics Daydream Cushion Foundation is very lightweight and not too expensive but I have found some dupes of this product.
There are luxury makeup brands that make really amazing cushion foundations but they are more expensive than the EM Cosmetics Cushion Foundation. Either way, I’m going to list the best cushion foundations here:
- Yves Saint Laurent Le Cushion Encre de Peau Foundation (Sephora, YSL Beauty, Shoppers Drug Mart, Nordstrom)
- Shiseido Synchro Skin Self-refreshing Cushion Compact (Shiseido, Shoppers Drug Mart)
- Dior Capture Dreamskin Fresh & Perfect Cushion (Sephora, Dior, Nordstrom, Shoppers Drug mart)
- Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Cushion Foundation (Lancome, Nordstrom, Shoppers Drug Mart)
There you have the review of the EM Cosmetics Daydream Cushion Foundation with SPF. The dupes are merely luxury beauty brands who are known to create cushion foundations because they are more luxurious in my opinion.
