The Drunk Elephant B Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum has gotten a wide range of raving reviews. Because of this, I took advantage of the Sephora VIB 20% off sale to purchase the 50 ml size.
Drunk Elephant describes the B-Hydra Serum as a “cool drink of water for your thirsty skin”.
Since it’s a serum, the B-Hydra penetrates down into skin and replenishes complexion, skin texture and tone.
The Drunk Elephant B-Hydra serum (also known as an intensive hydration serum) also includes pineapple ceramide and vitamin B5 in order to leave your skin with a healthy glow. The B-Hydra serum is really lightweight and allows for quick absorption into skin which is great because you don’t have to wait a long time before applying makeup.
When you first apply the B-Hydra it acts as a gel as it goes onto the face in a soothing way that keeps it wet for about 2 minutes then it dries down into this formula that instantly hydrates skin. It also does leave a dewy finish without looking oily.
Wondering what type of skin is best for B-Hydra? If you have Oily Combination skin then the B-Hydra gel is going to be a winning combination for you. It acts as both a serum and a moisturizer in one step so you don’t need to add to many products to your regimen if you have oily/combination skin.
Additionally, Drunk Elephant products are made to be used together so you don’t have to follow a specific step regimen. The B-Hydra Serum is made to pair with the C-Firma Serum which is a Vitamin C based Serum. You can apply both Drunk Elephant Serums by themselves or together, again – it doesn’t matter the order. I already have the truth serum from Ole Henrikson so I didn’t feel the need to purchase the C-Firma.
Ingredients of the Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Serum
You may be wondering what makes the B-Hydra Serum so great and why it has the name “B-Hydra”. The B-Hydra Serum is really an intensive hydration gel that acts like a moisturizer. I find that when I apply B-Hydra, I don’t need to apply a moisturizer on top (only sunscreen as there is no SPF). It is fragrance-free and works really well for all skin types and doesn’t clog pores.
The “B” in “B-Hydra” stands for Vitamin B5 (panthenol) which helps skin attract, absorb and maintain moisture in the skin. It is also beneficial in reducing skin inflammation and speed up the recovery time for scars and wounds resulting in a healthy layer of skin.
It also includes sodium hyaluronate which is the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid which is the ingredient that holds onto the water which makes it the best skin moisturizer ingredient. If you’re looking to control fine lines and wrinkles: sodium hyaluronate will help reduce the appearance of fine lines and give skin a more youthful glow.
I love applying the B-Hydra serum because it gives my skin a fresh glow and does illuminate the skin before I apply my foundation which is key for me. It is also a water based formula and it doesn’t have silicone. It does provide a surprisingly high amount of hydration which is what I expect from this product.
There is also no silicon in this product which is a bold move from Drunk Elephant. Many other skincare companies put silicon in all of their products and that can potentially clog pores so its not the best ingredient.
Packaging of the Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Serum
The packaging of the B-Hydra Serum is well known from Drunk Elephant. They always ensure there’s a thought behind the bottle. There are two things I love about this packaging:
- The way you open the bottle you have to twist it to the right. This allows you to actually close the bottle without it hitting the air and clunking up the nozzle at the bottom.
- The pump allows you to only press out a small drop of the product. Instead of going with the pump, you can press down as much or as little as you want for the product to come out.
Results of Using Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Serum for 1 Week
After 1 week of using the B-Hydra Serum, my skin is pretty soft and supple. I love applying it after a shower in the morning and during my night skincare routine in the evening. I do think it’s one of the best serums I have tried. It is also not very sticky which I find that a lot of serums do. I would recommend this product albeit the price.
If you’re using any hyaluronic acid or hydration products then you’ll definitely understand that these moisture based serums are different altogether.
I find that the more I use the B-Hydra Serum, the better my skin gets. I have acne prone skin but sometimes I have dry skin in some areas so I find that B-Hydra also helps to balance my different skin feelings.
Update: It is now one year later and I am still using the B-Hydra Serum. I bought my second tube at the previous sale at Sephora and I haven’t started it yet. I find that since the pump allows you to squeeze out a small amount, a little does go a long way.
My skin always gets such amazing compliments after having used the B-Hydra serum from Drunk Elephant that I think it is slowly replacing my Ole Henrikson Truth Serum which you can read the review here).
Best Drunk Elephant Products
Not only is the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum one of the best products from Drunk Elephant but their products are very high quality. Some of the best Drunk Elephant products are:
C-Firma (Vitamin C)
C-Firma is Drunk Elephant’s answer to a vitamin C serum. If you have ever read one of my Ole Henriksen reviews of the Truth Serum you will see that I love using vitamin c-serums. To be honest they both cost about the same amount of money and the quality is equal so if you love Drunk Elephant as a brand then you should pick it up. I love the packaging of the C-Firma which is the same as the B-Hydra so if packaging is your thing then you’ll want to pick this up.
