How To Get Perfect Brows!
Anastasia Beverly Hills became widely popular for their makeup but most importantly the Anastasia Beverly Hills eyebrow products have become staples in my makeup collection. Anastasia Beverly Hills is the leader in eyebrow grooming. If you’re after perfect brows, read about all of the products that Anastasia Beverly Hills has to offer.
The Brow Definer is a product I’ve been using for the past 2 years! It’s one of my consistent staples that I have on repeat. There are a few reasons why I’ve never strayed from this product. The Anastasia Brow Definer retails at Sephora for $30 CAD (Click here to shop).
I will explain my rationale of why I love this product in this Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer Review:
The Packaging – The Brow Definer is basically a double ended pencil. Hooray for dual use! There is a spoolie on one end of the product which is an important element in defining your eyebrows. As much as it is necessary to enhance your brows with product, it’s just as important to prep them by brushing eyebrows with a spoolie.
The Brow Definer is available in 9 shades:
-
-
- Blonde
- Taupe
- Soft Brown
- Medium Brown
- Auburn
- Caramel
- Dark Brown
- Chocolate
- Granite
- Ebony
-
The great thing about the entire Anastasia Brow Line (Click here to see it all at Sephora), is that if you find your perfect shade, no matter which product you use of theirs you can trust the shade will be the same.
There are a better view of the swatches in the photo below. You’ll see that medium brown is basically the center of the shade range so it is best work around that depending on your eyebrow colour. Blonde, Taupe and Soft Brown work well for lighter hair and I can usually work between Taupe and Soft Brown.
How to Apply the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer
The brow definer makes it easy to fill in the sparse areas of your brows. I start with short strokes and work my way on a diagonal so that I’m going in the direction of hair growth. For the hairs closer to the nose, you may want to try the companion called Brow Wiz also by Anastasia Beverly Hills. The Brow Wiz is a fine tip pencil which makes it easy to actually create the hair wisps. Sometimes I also use the sharp end of the Brow Definer to make the specific hairs.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer Swatches for Light Eyebrows
If you have fair to light eyebrows, the swatches for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer you’ll want to use are the first three. The lightest is the Blonde shade followed by Taupe which is for more of an ash blonde colouring. Soft brown is also a great bet for people with ash or dirty blonde hair.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer Swatches for Medium Eyebrows
If you have a mid colouring then you’ll want to check out the swatches for the Anastasia Beverly Hills starting with Auburn, Caramel, Medium Brown, Chocolate and Dark Brown. Especially if you have red hair you’ll want to stick with the Auburn colouring. For dark brown eyebrows I would stick with Medium Brown, Chocolate and Dark Brown.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer Swatches for Dark Eyebrows
If you have dark eyebrows including black, you’ll want to choose the colours Ebony or Granite. These are the perfect darker coloured pencils for dark eyebrows.
Anastasia Dip Brow
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow is Also Complimentary to achieving the perfect brow as well. It is a bit trickier to apply but you can use the Brow Definer to outline the shape and the Dip Brow to fill in the rest.
For example, my colour in the Brow Definer is Taupe. I had no trouble ordering the DIPBROW Pomade in Taupe from the website without even swatching the colour on my skin. Easy right? Btw, the DIPBROW is only $23 and should last for about 2 years!
The Application – The actual brow definer is triangular so that you can choose which point to focus on. If you need more coverage, using the width of the triangle will help to smooth out lines and fill in sparse areas. Always go with the way your hair grows for a natural look. Use small quick strokes for a believable effect.
The Brow Definer is also buildable, so if you want a darker and bolder look, go over the area more than once.
The Anastasia Brow Definer can be used alone or with other Anastasia brow products such as the Dip Brow Pomade. The Dip Brow Pomade can give you a dramatic look but is a bit more difficult to apply.
If you’re asking:
Which one is better Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pomade or its Brow Wiz?
The answer is that they are both are good alone and can be used together for a darker look. You’ll use the Brow Definer to carve out the shape of your eyebrows and then you’ll use the pomade with a sharp angled bush to fill in your brush strokes like your natural eyebrow hair. I have used the pomade by itself but at the end of the day it does look better when you pair it with the Brow Wiz.
Similar products of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer
Since there are so many other brow products out there that are similar to the Brow Definer. If you are wondering what is the best eyebrow pencil to use that is cheaper than Anastasia Beverly Hills, I have created a list for you below:
-
-
- NYX Sculpt and Highlight Brow Contour – $10 USD – This eyebrow product from NYX comes with the brow definer product and a highlighter. It’s a bit more advanced for those who are into highlighting their brow bone and the area around the eyebrow.
- Maybelline Micro Pencil (MSRP $7.96 USD) – The Maybelline Micro Pencil comes in 6 shades which is great for variety. This is close to the Brow Definer however, the end of the crayon is not triangular so it won’t give you the same amount of fill that the brow definer does and you’ll likely use up more product faster, even if it is cheaper.
- Benefit Goof Proof Pencil ($32 CAD) – Benefit is one of the best brow companies out there but their products are a few dollars more than Anastasia Beverly Hills. I would say that this pencil is most comparable to the Brow Definer but they just expanded their shade range and tend to go out of stock a lot.
- L’Oreal Stylist Definer (MSRP $9.96 CAD) – This is a great option but again, the crayon is super precise which will require a lot of work to get the same coverage as the brow definer.
-
There are definitely a lot of amazing eyebrow pencils out there but the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer is by far the best I’ve seen.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz
There is another eyebrow product from Anastasia Beverly Hills that you may want to purchase as a compliment to the Brow Definer and that is the Brow Wiz. Essentially, the Brow Wiz is just a fine tipped brow pencil that twists up the same way as the Brow Definer. The swatches for the Brow Wiz are the same colours as the Definer but are of course finer because it is simply a pencil.
The Brow Wiz swatches are in the same colour family as all ABH eyebrow products. Here is a list of how to find your perfect eyebrow swatch colour:
Is Brow Powder or Pencil Better for Eyebrows?
If you are wondering which is better: Brow Powder or Pencil for your eyebrows I would say that really depends on your own brow type. I personally think it is easier to use an eyebrow pencil either the brow definer or brow wiz but either way, powder can get tricky especially if you are looking to achieve the ombre brow.
Do I need a Brow Gel Too?
If you are wondering if you need to use an eyebrow gel after you have filled in your eyebrows the answer is maybe. If you want your eyebrows to stay then I would suggest using a clear eyebrow gel on top of your eyebrows after you have filled them in. This way, you’ll still get the colour of the pencil you used and they won’t end up being too dark.
Can you use brow gel alone to fill in sparse dark thick eyebrows?
You can use a brow gel alone to fill in sparse dark thick eyebrows because this will help keep your hairs in place. However, if you have light eyebrows, you should use a tinted brow gel. Anastasia Beverly Hills makes a tinted brow gel called Dipbrow Gel but it is a liquid version of their pomade (seen below). I don’t like this product because it is very watery and I find that the colour doesn’t hold.
Even though I am not a big fan of this product, I still like the fact that the shades and swatches of the DipBrow Gel matches the Brow Wiz shades. You can find all of the swatches of the DipBrow Gel Below:
If you aren’t sure which eyebrow product to go with then I suggest you start with the Brow Wiz because that is an easy to use tool. You can also go with the dupes of the Anastasia Brow Wiz because there are so many eyebrow pencils that are made the same.
Let me know how you do with these recommendations for the best eyebrow pencils at Sephora and other makeup websites.
