Makeup setting sprays and face mists are so popular right now, it was hard to pick the 10 best makeup setting sprays. They help ensure that you have lasting makeup and keeps making looking fresh longer.
The reason why I love makeup setting sprays and face mists is not only because they are so refreshing and cooling, but they often serve a multi-functional use. You could want to achieve a dewy look, lock in moisture, seal in your makeup for the day or night. Face mists are super popular right now and luxury brands as well as drugstore face mists are taking the world by storm. Finding the best face mists can be tricky but luckily I’ve created a list of my most recommended face mists.
Makeup setting sprays help keep your makeup looking fresh and last longer. I also find that makeup setting sprays are good for all skin types but especially dry skin. For oily skin, you may want to try a mattifying makeup spray such as the one from NYX Professional Makeup.
Here are the 10 best makeup setting sprays on the market right now:
Mac Fix Plus is probably the creator of the face mists. Often called: Prep + and Prime +, because ever since face mists have exploded, Mac has expanded the Fix Plus line to include prepping as well as a finishing spray. They have also expanded the line to include a mattifying spray, scented fix plus as well as a glitter fix plus.
You may be asking yourself: What is Mac Fix Plus? Mac Fix Plus is a water mist that preps the skin, refreshes makeup and helps to set it in place. It’s basically an overall, prime, prepper and setter! It contains natural green teas, chamomile and cucumber to intensify makeup but also add moisture to the skin.
Honestly, the Mac Fix Plus is the holy grail of the best makeup setting sprays!
Since the “no makeup makeup” look is all the rage right now, so is dewy and fresh looking skin. You can read about my review of the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist here and how to get the “no makeup makeup” look here.
This face spray by Tatcha is amazing at getting a healthy dewy glow without looking greasy. It’s also perfect to wear alone or with minimal makeup and really brings a refreshing feel to the skin. I love using the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist when I wear sheer foundations, because it helps amp them up a notch!
I like to use the Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray for when I have a full glam look. This setting spray is perfect because it locks makeup in place. Also, sometimes I wait until I use my setting spray first before applying mascara and the Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray does not mess up my mascara and allow it to smudge below the lash line.
The Too Faced Hangover Setting Spray is a triple use product (well similar to the rest of them). Firstly, mist the spray on your face before you apply makeup to increase hydration, spray after makeup to lock it in place or spray day/night to reactivate your makeup. Honestly, most of these setting sprays are 3 three in one so don’t worry about using setting sprays regularly.
The NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray is the best drugstore option for setting sprays. The great thing about the NYX Professional Makeup Setting Spray is that there is a mattifying element to this setting spray. Sometimes, you don’t want the dewy look or when it’s hot outside, you may desire a matte look. Not only does this spray keep you hydrated but again, it’ll keep you looking matte without feeling dry.
The Bobbi Brown Face Mist is pretty similar to the other setting sprays I have mentioned above. It’s the most similar to Mac Fix Plus because it contains: Green tea, Camomille, Cucumber extracts as well as glycerine. It plumps upon application and stays to maintain a healthy glow. Also, with glycerine, you can mist your eyeshadow brushes and apply glitter or foil shades for a more pigmented look.
The CoverFX Illuminating Setting Spray is similar to the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Spray. It works after applying makeup and provides a glow and sheen that has little flecks of illuminating powder within it.
If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to some of the setting sprays I’ve mentioned above, the Sephora Collection Setting Spray is just as good as any of the other ones. Additionally, there are some subtle hints of rose gold which will provide an illuminating glow.
If you follow me on Instagram (@Beautyreviewsca), you’ll know that I love the Mario Badescu Facial Spray. I use it as a refresh setting mist during the day at work when I can’t nap! The Mario Badescu setting spray comes in other flavours too but the aloe and cucumber are my favourite.
L’Oreal’s Infallible line is cutting edge tech and the quality is as good as any other luxury brand on the market right now. The L’Oreal Paris Infallible Makeup Extender Setting Spray is perfect for ensuring your makeup lasts longer. It’s an oil free formula that produces a fine mist to get an even look with your makeup.
